Sustainability
Traditional artisanship and modern environmental considerations
At Dan Vals, we are proud to unite traditional artisanship with modern environmental considerations. We take responsibility for minimising our CO2 emissions, and we work purposefully on continually optimising our production processes, reducing waste, and implementing greener solutions so that we can supply our customers with quality products. All throughout the process we take people as well as the environment into consideration.
Ambitious environmental policy that makes a difference
We believe that all companies – regardless of their size – have the opportunity to make a positive difference for the environment. At Dan Vals, we are fully aware that we can make big picture differences as well as make a difference on smaller matters.
Making a difference is the overarching keyword in our work with implementing changes in behaviour among our staff. These changes can reduce the CO2 emission and contribute to creating a sustainable future.
Below you can read more about the specific initiatives that we do in order to create a more sustainable future.
Sustainable production
As a part of our green transition, the use of sustainable energy in our production played a central role in our efforts to reduce our CO2 emission.
Among other things, we have replaced our oil-fired boiler with new and energy-efficient heat pumps and installed a massive 500 square meter solar cell plant, which impressively produces 42 % of our total energy consumption.
Furthermore, we collect rainwater for use in our production. This has proven to be a particularly effective method to lower the consumption of water as well costs. At the same time, this has also minimised our company’s environmental impact.
CO2 optimised delivery setup
The fact that we have looked thoroughly into our supply chain with the goal of reducing the CO2 emissions has been a natural part of our green transition. Previously, we were used to receiving materials every day, but now we demand from our suppliers that they send fewer individual shipments, and on our end we have also combined more products into fewer shipments and thereby minimised the number of outbound deliveries. We have done – and continue to do – all of these things in order to lower the CO2 emissions – not just for our own sake but for everyone’s sake.
CO2 calculations per item
In order to meet the climate requirements that we as well as our customers are faced with in a sustainability focused everyday life, we offer CO2 calculations per produced item. This is a great way for our customers to be sure of and be able to document the actual CO2 emission of all of their projects.
These calculations are stated along with other important numbers in our total account for year 2025 and onwards, and this gives us the opportunity to strive after specific goals. These numbers make it possible for us to compare to previous years and make improvements going forward.
A sustainable working environment
In a broad sense, sustainability is about using our human and physical resources in a good as well as smart way. This is why we will only achieve a sustainable production, when we also ensure a healthy working environment for our employees.
With a focus on strengthening our employees as well as managers and the working community as a whole, we look into new initiatives every single day. These initiatives ensure a high level of work wellbeing, fewer accidents, fewer heavy lifts, and development of human resources.
Environmental certifications
Our environmental policy is not just a collection of empty words or green platitudes. In order to put action behind our words and to prove that we are serious about the environment, we are ISO certified within the fields of environmental management and working environment management:
ISO 14001 certified in environmental management
We are continually setting new and strict requirements for how we can improve our environmental policy, and how we take the internal as well as the external environment into consideration. The certification is proof that we – on our own initiative – start green initiatives. This applies to us as well as nudging our suppliers and thereby reducing the indirect CO2 emissions throughout our value chain.
ISO 45001 certified in working environment management
With effective policies and strong values in our management, we ensure the best working environment for our employees. We care a lot about our employees’ safety, but we also care a lot about their physical and psychological health and wellbeing.
Production without paper
At Dan Vals, the production process is paperless. This means that all employees have access to a digital device that updates important information in real time. Besides the obvious benefit that we save paper, we have also achieved a production line that is much more effective, and where all data and documentation is available digitally. Another bonus is that all employees have the same information at the same time.
Fewer hazardous chemicals
Since we started our green transition, we have succeeded with halving the number of used chemicals in our production. And none of the chemicals that we do use are in the red hazard classes.
Sustainable steel and aluminium
We offer production of items in sustainable steel and aluminium. Both types of metal products are produced with a significantly lower CO2 emission than conventional alternatives. These ‘green’ metals are achieved by recycling and using sustainable energy sources such as wind energy and solar power in the production. Furthermore, the sustainable metals are achieved by replacing fossil fuels with green alternatives such as hydrogen.
The bees and the flowers
As we want to lend a helping hand to biodiversity, we have established a large 2,000 square meter grass area surrounding our production facilities. Each year, this grass area transforms into a colourful sea of wild pick-your-own flowers.
In order to ensure the continued presence of healthy ecosystems, we put up beehives in our area. This results in a natural symbiosis where flowers and bees thrive and benefit from one another.
